PRESS RELEASE AUGUST 2019
Artists: Mike Francis Biography
Originally from a tailoring and fashion background, Mike has been playing in nightclubs since the late 80s, in his formative years, alongside scores of stand-up comics including local celebrities Foo Foo Lammar and Bernard Manning.
But it was after sharing a stage with DMC champion Chad Jackson (Hacienda), that his serious love of mixing started at 42nd Street Nightclub in Manchester, in what was to become known as the Summer of Love, '86, the birth of house music.
At this time rubbing shoulders with Double Trouble’s Carl Brown, Lee Guest and Rebel MC, Neneh Cherry, Ruby Turner and Lisa Stansfield.
42nd Street was originally owned by Manchester United Legend George Best and called “Slack Alices” for George to drink in.
After successfully stepping sideways into indie in the ‘Madchester’ era, then spending years hosting private parties for event planners and DJ agencies around the North West, Mike is back once again on the deep house music scene and continues where he left off, with a dedication to quality music, an infectious enthusiasm to host incredible parties and to pursue his unquenchable passion for music.
Although he still picks up his guitar every now and then, his mixing skills are stronger than ever thanks to inspiration from veteran Ibiza DJ Carl Cox and the influence of Kaliki’s Pete Zorba. Zorba plays regularly some of Europe’s finest clubs from Space Ibiza, Sankeys and The Zoo Project.
Add to the mix some newly acquired skills from sessions with Manchester’s Kreature, another DJ on the world stage, and the future offers up a whole world of opportunity.
Mike has also found a new mentor in Manchester born DJ & Music Producer Mark Bradbury, Aka Rudosa, a ‘Sankeys Manchester’ Resident DJ with releases and remixes on such labels as, Stereo Productions, Deeperfect, Wow! Recordings, Clarisse Records, Extravaganza & Area Remote. Delivering a high output of sleek, intelligent yet driving strain of house and techno.
Said Mike in a recent interview, “I tried the club DJ life in Spain years ago but after eighteen months of 16 hour days and too many Heroin dealers I decided England was the place to be, maybe I should reconsider? …for 2020 though, techno house production is my next challenge”.
In 2015 Mike’s long-standing indie-club residency ‘Dreamers’ was turned into a play which was Nominated for the Manchester Theatre Awards. Sally Carmen (Shameless) was the lead actor.
